Job overview:
The hardware baseband engineer is a significant position in the Wireless Mobility R&D team. You will need to proactively take measures to promote new technology research and improvement, and the ability to integrate these technologies into high-performance, scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities:
- Owner of or support new technology studying or new feature analysis and prototyping; create & maintain detail technical requirements for each function domain working with technical experts in software/hardware/test teams and following to support technology & feature implementation.
- Design, development, and integration of hardware baseband systems for cellular modems, focusing on LTE/5G/WiFi/BT/GNSS technologies and their application in automotive connectivity solutions.
- Create and maintain HW technical documentation and ensure accuracy for technical information with high quality.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards such as 3GPP, ETSI, FCC, CE, and automotive-specific standards.
- Work closely with hardware and software teams to ensure proper integration of base band components in modem designs, optimizing for low power consumption and high reliability.
- Support to build and optimize hardware development and certification process for new baseband designs, coordinating with regulatory bodies and test labs to achieve successful product certification in various global markets.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in best practices for baseband design, testing, and certification.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- 3+ years’ relevant experience on wireless communication hardware system development preferred in automotive LTE/5G/WFiI/BT Telematics, Cockpit or Embedded IoT Solution with minimum 3 years working at system architect level
- Substantial experience with schematics tools and supervising layout work.
- Familiar with the hardware system design and the Key hardware components such as Processor/MCP/Regulator/CODEC/Oscillator and knows how to read the key performance.
- Strong knowledge of 3GPP LTE/5G standards and automotive communication protocols; familiarity with certification processes for cellular modems (e.g., FCC, CE, PTCRB, GCF, TÜV).
- Hands-on experience with hardware baseband testing and measurement equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, Call Box tester, Oscilloscope, Logic analyzer, Audio analyzer…).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in design, testing, and certification phases.
- Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
- Excellent communication/presentation skill in English; bilingual in German or Chinese is preferred.
- Good organizational, interpersonal and teamwork skills, self-motivated and achievement oriented, while excelling in a dynamic multi-tasking fast paced environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in automotive baseband design, especially in integrating wireless communication technologies into vehicles.
- Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks specific to the automotive industry.
- Experience working with multimode modems and cross-network handovers.
